Moby Dick

Moby Dick

Gorges Ocloo had long wanted to make a performance of the American classic by Herman Melville. A second source of inspiration for the performance was a photo of a young black girl floating in the water in a Sunday dress. Despite the fact that the girl seemed to be sunbathing quietly, the caption stated that it was about a drowned boat refugee in the Mediterranean Sea.

Did this girl know beforehand how dangerous the journey she was going to take? Was she scared or did she think it was safe?

This reminded Gorges Ocloo of the crew of the Pequod, the boat that, thanks to Captain Ahab's revenge, drove the dangerous sperm whale Moby Dick without knowing it. Would the fishermen have gone with the boat if they had known this in advance?
